kitchen shelf/cabinet project

so this one has been in process forever, since April or May i think. i wanted to move the ikea kitchen cart that was in the kitchen nook to the dining room and replace it with something that would hold my cookbooks and other random things better. and our neighborhood community has a huge garage sale twice a year, so in the spring i went hunting and found this cabinet thing. it looked like it would work and it was $40, for a nice solid wood piece of furniture. so i bought it with the intention of painting and jazzing it up a little bit. but when i got it home, hubby and i were looking at it and realized that it must have been the right side of an entertainment system or something because of the holes in the back and the way that they decorative molding was uneven on one side. i wasn't exactly sure what to do so i just let it sit for awhile after sanding it. finally, i decided that hubby was good enough with the circular saw to even things up a bit. see, the top had an overhang on one side of the cabinet but was flush on the other side, so he used his skills to cut the excess off of one side, which is not easy with a circular saw, by the way. anyway, then i ripped off the decorative molding and replaced it with some new molding, then i primed it all up, and had to paint 4 coats of white paint. i cut some cardboard to fit the inside of the cabinet and then found some paper to wrap the cardboard, so that the inside of the cabinet was a little dressed up. then i found a knob for the drawer, put it all together and 8 months later it's done! hahaha. i found the paper and the knob at world market. the colors on the paper are perfect, because they include the colors that i'd like to decorate the kitchen with; dark blue, teal, turquoise, lime green along with gray. anyway, there we are. next, i'm hoping to re-do the plain ikea kitchen cart.
