again with the curtains?!
haha i have a feeling that with all the windows in this place, i will never be done buying curtains. so, i have been spending the past 2 months or so looking for curtains for our master bedroom. we already had curtains in there, but they were really thin and light and we needed a little more coverage. i already knew that curtains are expensive after searching for them for the family room. so after searching at every store online and all the stores around me, i finally found some at pier 1 that i thought were nice, were thicker than what we had, and were more reasonably priced:
but i didn't want to order them online because the shipping charge was about 30% of the cost of the curtains. so i went to the store near me. they didn't have any. they were going to order them, but for some reason weren't able to. grrrr. back to square one. i really didn't want to spend $80 per panel since i needed 4 panels. i had been going back and forth over some from target that were fine, but they weren't lined, which is what i really wanted. every day i checked places like overstock and world market online. i resigned myself to buying the ones i saw at target:
i liked the pattern and color and they would work just fine. but i went to both of the targets near me and they didn't have 4 panels. ugggg! so i decided to check at homegoods. they had some really cute ones, white background with a gray pattern, which is what i preferred. but i didn't pick them up immediately because i wanted to see if i could find the target ones somewhere. after a couple of days i decided on the homegoods curtains, went back and they only had 2 panels of the white ones, but they had a nice gray, lined, linen look curtain that matched the design on the white curtain perfectly. so i picked them all up, took them home (with one more stop in between to pick up two more panels) and hung them. tada! here they are:
and this is what we had before:
although i do prefer light and airy curtains, i think the new ones are more appropriate for our room, they offer more privacy and are more light blocking, and hopefully they will keep some of the cold draft from seeping into our room from the window. anyway, maybe i will learn from this curtain experience.
let's see, i also got a little crazy during z's nap and went through my closet, storing my summer clothes, pulling out my sweaters and organizing everything in our drawers and closet by color and function. because i'm a nerd.
one last thing, i finally hung some art/pictures above the bed in the guest bedroom. and i switched things around a little bit. the tall dresser that was on the wall adjacent to the door got moved next to one side of the bed and the night stand and lamp got moved to the other side of the bed, so now both sides of the bed have a night stand of sorts, and the dresser is no longer in the way. i hated walking in the door and having to navigate around the dresser. so now the flow is better. as for the stuff above the bed, i hung the mirror that was in the entry way, 2 watercolors that i purchased from a high school artist, and some pictures that i took. it looks so much more cozy! i still need to hang a piece of art that my sister made, and figure out what to put on the wall adjacent to the door. but it's progress!
this is what the room looked like before:
and i moved the mirror that was in the guest room to the front entry. i think it looks so much better there:
so that's it for now. school started last week, which means i will have less time to spend on projects around the house :( sad, especially because i still have a million things i want to get done! hmmm....i wonder how much sleep i actually neeeed to get?

sorry, my photo business watermark is on the picture. but i am too lazy to go back and remove it and re-upload everything. |
