so, if you read one of my older posts you know that i am planning on keeping the guest room for now but making it partially a nursery. it won't be a full on nursery like z or ava had, but it'll be enough for now, and babies don't take up much space. and also, this is #3 for us, so i have a pretty good idea of what i use and don't use and what's nice to have and what isn't necessary for us. for instance, i have never used a changing table. ever. i just change the baby wherever i am. i didn't want to have to take the baby upstairs if we were downstairs, just to change them. so i have always just had some supplies in the places that we are the most often (like in the living room and in my bedroom), stuff like diapers, wipes, bum cream, a wet bag, and a fold up changing mat. simple. and typically the baby sleeps in our room for awhile. z slept in our room for the longest, and we even co-slept with us, but that was not a great situation for any of us to get good sleep, so with ava we kept her in a rock n play next to the bed and then transitioned her to her own crib maybe around 5-6 months i think. with this new baby i imagine we'll transition her to her own crib sooner. after the initial SIDS risk period. maybe 4 months or so. but the rock n play next to the bed worked out so well, so we'll do that again.
anyway, the guest room will just need a little bit of tweaking. the first thing we did was get the closet system set up, which i posted about previously. then, hubby wants to scrape the popcorn off the ceiling, which is suuuuuuuuch a paaaaaain! but we've (and by we i mean he has) been scraping the popcorn off one room at a time; the living room, ava's room and zabih's room. then i'll paint the room, probably the same color i painted ava's room, it's a lovely light gray called moonshine. then touch up the trim and doors and all that. then the moving of furniture and decorating.
so i had purchased some solid wood nightstands from amazon awhile back, and planned on painting or staining them. i decided to stain them because it might hold up better, painted furniture in our house seems to get chipped and scratched really easily. i used two different stains and white-washed over the stain to make a faded look, i tend to like that style when i see furniture i like at restoration hardware and other placed that i cannot afford to buy furniture from. but it worked out so well! the plan is to move the bed over a bit toward the window, put the nightstands on either side, and then there will be plenty of room to put a mini crib on against the wall with some shelves and some artwork and stuff. i still don't have every piece figured out but this is what i'm leaning toward, something simple, but pretty and neutral, since we will have guests in this room, too.

i like the general look of this nursery, namely the minimalism, simplicity, it looks clean and uncluttered, and i like the plant in there |

i really like the idea of something like this above the crib |

so those are the ideas i have so far. muted pinks and greens and natural fibers and textiles. i always make the kids a name art and a mobile, so i'll do that for this baby, too. for the next few weeks, i'll be trying to figure out the specifics in more detail. we have a few more projects to finish first, and then i will have time to work on the guest room/nursery, but that's what i have in my mind for now.
