so this week slipped by quickly. spent some more time with my in-laws, had z's second birthday party, worked on some projects. we have a slanted under the stairs like closet on our second floor that we use to store random stuff, and it was starting to get out of hand. especially because there was a bunch of z's smaller clothes and toys and then suitcases and all kinds of stuff. i went through and put z's old clothes in bins to store in the garage for now, keeping the newborn stuff out. i went through all the newborn stuff to see what i would use for when baby girl arrives, and have to give the rest of it away. although i kept a few things of z's that i just couldn't get rid of, like this cute little outfit that he wore to our friends' wedding when he was a month old:

i never though i'd be sentimental about that stuff, but it happened. so we put all the other clothes in storage. then i cleared everything out of that closet and went through it, i got rid of a bunch of stuff that we don't use, consolidated some things, and then organized all the toys. for z's first birthday, he got lots of toys. throughout the year, his awesome grandparents, aunts, and uncles bring him gifts. we are very grateful because we rarely have to get him toys or books, just if there's something i really want to get for him or for some of the Bahai holy days in which there is gift giving. so anyway, we asked the people coming to his second birthday party not to bring gifts since he would get some from us, his grandparents, and aunts and uncles. but, understandably, our friends and family want to give him a birthday present, which is so kind and generous, and we appreciate it so much, so he still got some really great presents from them as well. but i have really been trying to limit the number of toys that are out for him to play with in order to both keep some sort of organization in our house, and to avoid overwhelming z with too many options, so that he can focus on just a few toys that have a chance to hold his attention. and it works pretty well, i rotate toys in and out every couple of months or so, which is nice because then he gets the feeling that he has new toys throughout the year. so, we appreciate the things he gets from our friends and family, for that purpose especially. but the closet was looking like a disaster. so, i organized all the toys to be stored, and put them in clear bins, and then was able to organize and clean out that closet. phew! it is so much better. and, i realize, we really don't need any new toys for the baby! hahaha. so it took me awhile to tackle that project. then i have been finishing up the final touches on the front room paint----painting the trim and all that. meanwhile, hubs and my father in law installed a drip irrigation system in our backyard so that we don't have to spend an hour a day watering all the plants. it has been a productive week! i also got to see my cousin's new baby girl, and have spent lots of time at the various parks around our house with z. so it's been good. as far as baby stuff, i am pinterest-ing lots of ideas, as i posted last time, and looking for fabric, as well as figuring out the front living room transition. i am able to feel baby girl more all the time, she is very gentle and calm in her movements. i have been experiencing a little bit of braxton hicks again, it seems to happen more frequently when i'm chasing after z all day. i'm feeling pretty good these days, though. i have a few more intense aches and pains than i did while pregnant with z----more pressure, and some round ligament pain, and the worst---pubis symphsis, you can look it up if you are so inclined. but nothing too bad, really. i am most definitely very emotional lately, i can cry so easily, and can get irritated very quickly. some days i really lack patience with z, and with anything, really, and other days i'm ok. ah, pregnancy hormones. i started re-reading the harry potter series a few weeks ago, and when i am done with that, i am going to start reading some of the pregnancy books again, just to be prepared. maybe not all of them, probably just Ina May Gaskin's books to prepare myself mentally for childbirth. anyway, let's get down to the weekly update:
How far along: 22 weeks
Size of baby: almost 11 inches long, the size of a spaghetti squash, and almost one lb, looks like a mini newborn, can perceive light and dark and hear things like my voice, heartbeat, stomach gurgling, etc
Total weight gain: not quite sure, less than 10 lbs i think, but not for long
Maternity clothes: both
Gender: girl
Movement: little squiggles and graceful kicks
Sleep: nice
What I miss: nothing really, i am a little less strict about certain foods than the first time around, like brie cheese---i eat it if it's pasteurized, and have had some deli meat sandwiches with cold cuts---gasp! i didn't do any of that before, but every once in awhile i will indulge now. i guess that's pretty typical of subsequent pregnancies and turns out to be just fine
Cravings: fruit, chocolate, asian soups
Symptoms: the ones mentioned above
Best moments this week: getting through some projects, and sharing the happiness of one of my dear friends, getting to see my cousin's baby girl and savoring the feeling of her sleeping so peacefully on my chest
