a little bit of painting

so over the past few days my baby let me take some time to paint the weird closet in our hallway upstairs.  hubby and i are planning on painting the entire house one space at a time and this has been on our list so i decided to just put the baby on the floor with his toys and get 'er done.  the closet isn't very big so it didn't take too long. it is a pretty boring update, but here are the before and and afters:
before
oh yea check out that linoleum!

after
the previous owners left some paint in the garage so i was able to use that for a nice wallet friendly zero dollar update.

oh-what i learned so that hopefully anyone reading this can learn from my mistakes...tape off the trim and floor and whatever else you don't want to mess up with paint.  you can save a little money by using masking tape, i haven't noticed a huge difference between that and painter's tape.  tape very carefully and don't miss any spots, push the tape that you place on the carpet underneath the trim to ensure that it will be protected.  paint the trim first.  remove the tape while the paint is still wet otherwise when the paint is dry the tape is sooooo much harder to remove and you will end up trying to scrape it off with a putty knife or flat head screw driver and it will be a major pain...trust me on this one!

i also whipped up a simple DIY paint chip art to put in the master bedroom.  i ended up leaning it on a shelf instead of hanging it and also spruced up the top of our dresser a bit by putting away the clothes that somehow always end up lying there and adding some pictures.

in between that i finally read Tina Fey's book Bossypants.  I have a little bit of a big girl crush on Tina Fey, she is awesome.  anyway, the next project i hope to tackle is to paint and organize our towel closet and do something to straighten and organize the coat closet that drives me crazy:

what have y'all been working on?
