sideboard project

a little front entry update
i was able to recently get another project completed.  a few years ago, i purchased this cabinet thing from a consignment store for furniture, and i gave it a little makeover.  it sat in the front entry until a few months ago, when i started getting annoyed at it, haha.  it's an older piece, and the cabinet doors are hard to open, which isn't such a problem and i'm sure i can figure out how to fix it, but also, since it's just basically one big box on the inside, it was not easy to keep organized.  a bunch of stuff just ended up shoved in there.  and the purpose was to have an entryway table that could house our keys, wallet, sunglasses, whatever stuff we wanted or needed to have close before heading out the door.  so, i kept my eye open for something else.  in the meantime, i moved the cupboard into the dining room and the ikea kitchen cart into the front entry, which was a better fit temporarily.  and then coincidentally, one of my friends was selling some furniture from her rental.  and she had this sideboard that would fit perfectly in the front entry space, and it had two small drawers and two shelves; to hold our little things and to hold our shoes.  perfect! and it was $40.  even better!  so i picked it up and put it in the entry, and it was a great size and everything.  but the color was almost an off-white, and just didn't fit my vision.  i thought about what color i would paint it, and at first i thought i would just do white, since eventually the walls will be a soft, light gray.  but then i thought that might be boring, and eventually decided to paint it the same blue that we painted the front room, after i perused my pinterest boards and remembered that i had been wanting to paint a piece of furniture a navy or deep blue.  after sanding, i applied the first coat, then hubby helped and added another coat, and then i went over it again with a third coat and some polycrylic.  i ordered some new pulls, and bought some plastic storage baskets for all the little kid shoes.

and after the makeover

here's after i moved the kitchen cart in here, clearly not the right size:

here are some inspiration pictures:
i really like the different pops of colors and the plants
i like the vignette on the wall
and here is the sideboard in the front entry, all freshly painted and fancy:

i'm still trying to figure out how i want to decorate on the wall.  i recently ordered this rug that i had been eyeing for awhile and was on really good sale for memorial day.  i love the bright colors and boho-inspired design.
and here's the rug for this space
i still need to find a mirror for above the sideboard, and figure out the rest.  and paint!!!!!!  the wallllsssss!!!!!!  i can't wait!  hubby and i have been intimidated because the entry and the stairs have such high ceilings, so it's daunting, but no way in hell am i paying someone like $1000 to paint it.  anyway, when it's done it will look so good.  especially with some nice board and batten or picture frame molding to beef up the walls and add visual interest.  kind of like this.

i love this board and batten on the wall

so much to do!
