Cloth diaper update

hello there.  so awhile back i wrote a post about the cloth diapers that i decided on, here.  i wanted to write a follow up since i have been using the diapers for a little while now.  just to recap, i chose the bum genius 4.0 brand after lots and lots of research.  i didn't put baby z in them immediately because even though they are supposed to accommodate all sizes of baby from 7 lbs and up, my little guy wasn't chunky enough to fill them out and they would have leaked.  and, i really just wanted to not have to worry about dealing with washing them and all that goes along with cloth diapering during the first few weeks of having a newborn.  but after a few weeks, when he was about a month and a half old we started using the bum genius dipes.  right away i noticed we actually had fewer leaks and blowouts, which surprised me.  changing him is easy because bum genius has the snaps so it is very similar to using a disposable.  when baby is new and not eating solids yet you technically don't need to rinse the poo off the dipes but i do anyway to reduce any diaper pail stench and avoid stains, so i spray the dipes off with the bum genius diaper sprayer, right into the toilet.  it took me a couple days to figure out how to do it without spraying water and fecal matter everywhere.  the diapers are easy to wash, just throw them in the washing machine with cloth diaper safe detergent and then dry the inserts in the dryer and air dry the covers.  so far i am really happy with the diapers and the whole cleaning process is really not that big of a deal.  i even use them if we are away from home, i bring a wet bag to hold the diapers in until we get home.  i am sure things will be more, ahem, interesting when he starts to eat solids, but for now i'm really happy with the bum genius!

**** as i am posting this we are traveling and so we are using disposables during our trip.  we've had no less than 5 blowouts in the past 3 days, the kind where you have to just throw the kid in the bath because the poo is all up his back.  just another reason to love the bum genius, i never have this issue with cloth.****
