but the container, wand and lid are so much more fun. this is my son, the one who is more enthralled by the wand and lid. take the lid off, put it back on, take the lid off, pull the wand out, put the lid on, take the lid off, put the lid on, try to put the wand back in, lid is in the way, take the lid off, put the wand in, put the lid on. over and over for 15 minutes. pretty good! at first thought it seems he is just having fun. i'm sure he is. but he is also working on his gross and fine motor skills, learning about physics and geometry, planes and dimensions and shapes, cause and effect. he takes the lid off, turns it around in his hands, puts it in one hand, fits it into the top. if he has it upside down and it doesn't fit, he knows to turn it the other way, put it right side up in his other hand and fit it on the top. he is learning by trial and error, a hypothesis, "if i turn the lid this way then it will fit on the top", the scientific method! they figure things out so quickly, in minutes sometimes, with this innate ability to try something, if it doesn't work try it another way again and again until it does work. watching a person on a day to day basis develop these skills of investigating, hypothesizing, acting is amazing.
