baby stuffs that are good to have 9-12 months

hey all.  this will be the last of my 'baby stuffs that are good to have' posts, since we are at 12 months now.  my newborn edition is here, 2-3 months here, 4-6 months here, 6-9 months here.  ok, so during this time they area eating more and more solids, crawling all over the place, cruising, standing, probably trying to walk, beginning to test boundaries.  it's hard to say exactly what are good things for the 9-12 month old little ones to have during this time because they are all so different around this age.  but, for z, it was great to have books, and passive toys like blocks and push toys, things like that.  most of the same toys that he still had remained popular with z.  he started to really like to push cars and throw around his ball and his lion push toy (the same ones in the previous posts).

actually, the lion push toy was great because it helped him get up and walk with support, to practice walking and strengthen up those legs.  something to bang on, like a drum was great, too.  but mostly, he just liked to move around, crawl all over, pull open drawers and take everything out of them, practice standing and walking, things like that.  he loved to just be outside and play in the grass.  so, again, it completely depends on where your child is at in development and what their interests are.  the food situation is pretty much the same.  because z just eats whatever we are eating, and he began to eat more and more solids and finger foods in this stage, i didn't have to prepare anything special, and i stopped pureeing his food.  depending on the child's height and weight, you may need to upgrade the carseat, although they should remain rear facing until 2 years now (but he was getting too long for his old car seat so we upgraded to a convertible car seat which can be rear or forward facing, sometime after his first birthday).  now might be the time to look at getting some sort of shoes, soft shoes like robeez are good at first since you don't want to hinder their foot movement or feeling when they are learning to walk, and actually it seems best for them to be barefoot, but sometimes i would put him in soft shoes so that his feet didn't get cold or dirty.

the diaper situation will likely be the same, just a bigger size (or snap up if you are using the bum genius 4.0's like us).  oh, actually, it was nice to have a cup with handles for snacks, like the one shown below:

they can get their hand in there, but the contents don't spill easily.  and around that age, z was able to hold those squeezy pouches of food and feed himself, so i would stock up on those for when we were out and about and he needed a little food:

i think the only other thing i can think of right now is seasonal, during this stage the weather was starting to get warmer, so i bought one of those small blue plastic wading pools for z and he absolutely loved splashing around in it.  if it was winter, then you'd want to make sure to pick up a nice warm coat, mittens and hat, and maybe some warm boots.  again, it's hard to say exactly what is 'good' to have for baby at the 9-12 month stage because they start to really have preferences and can be so different from child to child.  anyway, hope this little series has been helpful.  maybe i'll do a 2 year and 3 year, etc update in the future.
