baby stuffs that are good to have: 6-9 months

hellllooooo!  this is a little later than i anticipated, but i wanted to post the 6-9 month edition of my 'baby stuffs that are good to have'.  according to me.  and you know i'm not an expert.  just a mom who juuuuust went through that stage so can remember the helpful gear.  so, here goes.  for 6-9 months, baby is most likely sitting, probably trying to crawl or maybe even crawling, if not at least pulling themselves along and army crawling.  they are eating solids in puree form and maybe starting to eat chunkier foods.  they are becoming more active all the time.  so, some of the things that i liked having are as follows:

-washable bibs with pocket:  at first i didn't understand why you'd want or need a pocket on a bib.  then z started feeding himself cubed, cut up food and i quickly learned.  the pocket catches all the food that doesn't make it in baby's mouth.  it's fantastic.  my sis in law got us some of the bumkins brand, and i really like them.  they are lightweight, waterproof, pocketed, have a velcro close, and easy to wash in the sink.  and they are cute.  i then picked up a bib with sleeves for the super messy meals (anything with beats.  or spaghetti sauce).

-i already covered high chairs in a previous post, but i found that having a splat mat is also very nice.  i am constantly sweeping, wiping and vacuuming the kitchen floor after z eats, and soon decided that i wanted a splat mat.  i like this one from kushies:

-sippy cup: i started giving z a regular cup early on, but for in the car or stroller, it was good for him to have a sippy cup.  i like those with 2 handles, one on each side, and that are leak proof and easy to clean.  i opted for nuby brand.

-snack cup: once baby can start feeding themselves, it's really nice to have a snack cup to hold cheerios or whatever other snack you decided to give your baby.  i recommend one that has 2 handles, and the top is 'spillproof'.  it's not 100% spillproof, but if it's turned upside down, the snacks don't fall out and baby has to stick their hand in through the lid to pull the food out.  i have this munchkin one, on the left, but i've heard good things about the OXO brand on the right:

-activity table: once they can pull themselves up to standing, it's really great to have an activity table.  they can stand up and play and every baby i've seen loves these things.  i ended up getting one from the children's consignment shop near my house. i picked up the fischer price laugh and learn with friends one, but every toy brand makes their own version, so you have lots of options.  this one has a spanish mode!

-baby proofing stuff:  it's that time if you haven't done it already.  don't be like me and wait til baby's 11 months old.  baby gates, cabinet and drawer locks and outlet covers at the very least.  toilet bowl locks, various gates to block things like entertainment centers, cord covers, fireplace bumpers, table bumpers.  we got table corner covers for our glass table, but z just rips them off, so they are not helpful.  but you may want to try it and see if your baby leaves them alone.  it would be worth it, and they cost something like $8.  the baby gate that you need depends on what kind of doorway openings and staircase situation if you have stairs.  the one that worked the best for our staircase at the top was the babies r us gate.  i had bought a summer infant one before, but the walk through area was too narrow and it had a bar that runs along the bottom, on the floor and since we were putting it on our top step it would have been a major tripping hazard.  so i returned it and got the babies r us brand that is much easier to mount, wide enough, and has no bar on the bottom.  so far so good.  we also bought these safety first magnetic cabinet and drawer locks and i really like them better than the regular cabinet locks.  it's easy to use and if baby figures it out, you just out the key where they can't reach it whereas with regular locks, they can figure out how to open them and then they are worthless.

-toys: he still liked things like his wooden stacker, and his ball.  i also got him a melissa & doug music set and he loves the maracas and tambourine.  he also liked his peekaboo forest crinkly book by lamaze and his foam blocks.  some of the toys he had already like sophie the giraffe and his cow rattle were still a big hit.

of course, these are in addition to the basics, these are the extras that are nice to have.  hope this is helpful!
