front stairs
so we were able to get one of our projects done recently! our front stairs project. we wanted to rip out the wood front steps and landing and replace it with concrete.
when we first bought this house, the front porch was painted yellow, like the house, and had carpet on the stairs. yuck! so it was a big soggy mess most of the year, and without proper flashing, the soggy stairs were up against the siding of the house.
and i dreamed of just replacing everything with concrete.
it was clear after this winter and spring that we would spend the rest of our lives in this house repainting these stairs every couple of years

so we ripped up the carpet, and replaced some of the boards on the tread, but unlike regular treads that are made from several planks of lumber, these were one solid piece of wood, so the rain water didn't really have anywhere to drain. we kind of had no choice at the time but to cover it up with another piece of plywood and then paint.
it was a temporary fix.

it will be so much easier to maintain; no painting, we can just pressure wash it, it looks cleaner and less patchwork since the house is yellow and the stairs were gray and the door is blue, it was too much, but now it looks much more streamlined, and we don't have to worry about chipping paint and dirty looking stairs. woooohooooo!
so now we can finish the next project; the laundry room!
