5 beauty products
hey all! i wanted to share a list of a few of my favorite beauty products. i think when something that we purchase is not up to our expectations, or we have bad service somewhere or something like that, we tend to tell everyone about it. but if we come across something that we really like, or somewhere that gave great service, we don't tend to tell as many people. so i wanted to share some products that i have used recent that i am a huge fan of!
typically, when i get ready for the day, i don't wear a lot of makeup. sometimes, if we are going somewhere, i will put a little more makeup on, but in general, i just want to do my skincare and then apply some makeup to make my skin look more even, hide under-eye issues, cover any blemishes and try to achieve a youthful dewy look. haha. only very rarely does that all come together, but nevertheless, i try. and i only want to spend 10 minutes or else my kids rip through the house like a tornado knocking everything down and spreading toys across every surface.
so, these are the things that i am totally digging right now:
1. Veil Illuminating Complexion Fix ($33.32 on the website listed below)
i saw this on the website beautyandtheboutique.com, (i really love this website, and suggest you check it out), when the makeup artist Katie shows you how you can look younger and more rested with just a few products. this was one of them. i was so amazed at how the product seemed to work, so of course i searched all over and read other reviews and watched some youtube videos of other people's experience with it. and then i checked out similar products at sephora by a bunch of different brands at a variety of prices. it seemed that this veil product was the one that seemed the best fit for me, so i ordered it. at first i wasn't sure about it, because it goes on really lightly. and by that i mean, it looks ridiculously white on my already pale skin. but then, because it is a water based formula, it just melts into your skin and matches nicely. and it does a pretty great job of making your skin look brighter but not shiny or glittery. the product is very lightweight, which i really like, so it doesn't feel heavy on your skin, and it is not cake. and it sets itself after about 40 seconds, so you don't have to go over it with powder. you don't use this all over your face like a foundation, but just in the spots you need (under eyes, around nose, on chin, on brow bone, etc). i use this every day, sometimes alone, sometimes over foundation, and some days over concealer and foundation! i am almost out of the tube i bought, and will definitely be purchasing it again!
3. Code FFL Mascara Primer ($24.48 on the beauty and the boutique website)
now, granted, this is only the second mascara primer that i have used, but i really like it! for me, every single mascara (except for one---Mary Kay's Ultimate Mascara) bleeds, smudges and/or flakes and ends up all over my face. it's so annoying. so, i recently decided that i would try lash extensions, but then i saw this mascara primer and decided to try it first. i do not wear mascara daily, maybe only once or twice a week, but i always use this primer now. it has fibers that add length and substance to your lashes (but not an annoying amount of fibers like some other brands), and the formula is a light tan color, so you can see where it is. i have to say, i was pleasantly surprised with this primer when i first used it---my lashes weren't super thick, but they were hella long. and this is an affordable price, too. i only ave one other primer to compare it to, so i may have to try some others at some point, but i really like this one so far.
4. Maybelleine Age Rewind Under Eye Concealer
i read several reviews on this product, and saw some before/afters, and it seemed pretty good, and best of all i could buy it at Target (or anywhere), and it was very affordable. so i picked it up. it's very lightweight, which i was looking for in a daily under-eye concealer. it applies super easily with a big puffy built i applicator, and smoothes nicely (i use a beauty blender, but sometimes i also just tap it in with my finger). it's great for every day, basic under eye concealing, quick and easy to use. and it's like $6.
5. Pixi h2o Skintint ($24 at Target or Pixi's website)
i was looking for a very lightweight foundation that i could wear everyday and not feel heavy on my face, or have a lot of coverage. for a daily foundation, i just wanted something light and dewey that lets my natural skin shine through. i read some reviews on Pixi h2o skin tint and thought i'd give it a try. it's a gel formula, which i wasn't really sure about, but i liked it immediately. it feels....soft? and it goes on smoothly and blends in well, it kind of just melts into your skin. again, the coverage is very light, so if you are looking for something heavier then this is not the product for you. it is just enough to even out the appearance of my skin and reduce any redness. and it's hydrating. it is a water based product and has ingredients like lavender, rose water and camellia. and just like all of Pixi's products, it's fragrance free and has no parabens---and is cruelty free! it's a little more pricey than drugstore foundation, but i am still on my first tube and haven't run out yet after almost 5 months.
so that's it for this post. hopefully this is helpful for any of you looking for some new, innovative products.

2. Three Custom Color Specialists Lifting and Clarifying Pencil ($19.72 on the beauty and the boutique website)
this is another product that i found on beautyandtheboutique.com when Katie uses it to make her skin look brighter and less tired. when i first ordered it, i was using a similar product from Pixi that was a dual ended pencil, one that was a peachy color and one that was a pearly white, to use as a highlighter. but it didn't go on very smoothly at all. so when i got this pencil, i was wary. but right away, i appreciated it! it is very good quality, so it applies and blends smoothly. i use it to line the waterline of my bottom eyelid (to make eyes appear brighter and cover redness in that area), i use it as a concealer stick to dot over small blemishes, and i use it to define and sharpen my brows after i apply my brow pencil. you can use it for a number of other purposes; add brightness to your inner corner of eye area, on top of brow bone, on top of upper part of cheek bones to add lift, cover redness and highlight the face, add to cupid's bow to make lips appear pouty-er, apply on top of lipstick and smudge out, etc. i will most definitely be purchasing this product again!now, granted, this is only the second mascara primer that i have used, but i really like it! for me, every single mascara (except for one---Mary Kay's Ultimate Mascara) bleeds, smudges and/or flakes and ends up all over my face. it's so annoying. so, i recently decided that i would try lash extensions, but then i saw this mascara primer and decided to try it first. i do not wear mascara daily, maybe only once or twice a week, but i always use this primer now. it has fibers that add length and substance to your lashes (but not an annoying amount of fibers like some other brands), and the formula is a light tan color, so you can see where it is. i have to say, i was pleasantly surprised with this primer when i first used it---my lashes weren't super thick, but they were hella long. and this is an affordable price, too. i only ave one other primer to compare it to, so i may have to try some others at some point, but i really like this one so far.
