hey all. so if you remember from awhile back, we had decided to keep the guest room as a guest room/nursery for the time being. we will have guests with us and will be easier to use that room as a guest room still, but we re-vavmped the closet so that the baby's stuff can go in there. the plan is that at some point in a year or so, when the baby is older, we will convert it into her room and move the guest bed into either Z or ava's room. when we have guests over, then the kid whose room as the guest bed get kicked out and moves in with one of their siblings. it just seemed more convenient and functional to me to actually use the fourth bedroom as a bedroom for our kid rather than have it empty 90% of the time and use only 10% of the time when we have guests.
so, i already posted about the closet and how we made it functional for us since we won't be able to fit a dresser in the room right now. hubby scraped the popcorn ceiling off and painted the ceiling and the walls. then we pretty much just put everything back where it was, the guest bed is in the same spot as are the wall lamps. i did buy some small unfinished solid wood 3 drawer dressers to use as end tables. i was looking for end tables forever for the guest room anyway. i wanted something solid wood, that wasn't too big, and within a budget. i couldn't find anything. all the ones i liked that were solid wood cost over $300 apiece. so i started searching for unfinished pieces. that was a struggle, too. i finally found some on amazon for around $150 apiece. they are not the highest quality, but are definitely much better quality than most of the press-board stuff that is in most stores now. anyway, so i went back and forth whether to stain or paint them, i finally decided to stain them, and then it was a matter of what color to stain them. i really like the look of some of the beachy wood looks from restoration hardware and pottery barn and places like that, but i just don't have it in the budget to spend that kind of money, haha. so i had an idea to layer different kinds of stains and do a white wash. i looked on pinterest at some tutorials and got to work. it was fun! i stained the nightstands one color, then added another stain on top, and then did some white washing with watered down white paint. i really like the way it turned out!
the rest of the room i wanted to be fairly minimalist since it will be a combo guest room/nursery. i had an idea in my head that included some minimalist felt flower wreaths. i searched around the internet and did some price checking. originally i thought i would just make them myself. but after i figured out how much it would cost for the materials, and then the time required (and skill that i don't have, so i would be figuring it out as i go), i decided it wasn't that much more to just buy some already made. i found a lot of options on Etsy that i liked but one stood out because it was more reasonably priced and came in a set of 3 wreaths, the shop is called Honey Crown. so i placed me order and asked for a little bit of customization and when i got the wreaths in the mail i was so happy. they are really good quality, she did a great job, they were packaged well to prevent damage, and they were very reasonably priced. i'm so pleased with them! so i hung those on the wall, i hung a round brass mirror above the bed, a brass look wire shelf on one wall (both from target!) and purchased a very simple print of a watercolor from Etsy for a few bucks, framed it and hung it on the wall. that was it! simple but i really like the way the room looks.
whenever we decide to transition the room from a guest/nursery to just the baby's room i will add some more decor and personalization. i really enjoy doing the kids' rooms. but for now this is what it looks like:
|
the baby's crib will go on that wall under the hanging wreaths |
|
all the baby things |
|
closer look at the wreaths...so cute! |
so that's all for now. the baby will sleep in our room until maybe 3-4 months and then we will transition her to this room. i had some more ideas about what i wanted to do with this room but i really don't have the energy, and there isn't much space to do anything else anyway. i'm glad it's all done for now!
