it's baby time!

so, i've been completely MIA for 2 main reasons.  one:  school and all of its business.  two:  i've been gestating a human baby.  apparently that takes a lot of energy.  so, now that i am in my 12th week and feeling much better, i will start updating this blog with what's going on in my life and the pregnancy.  i got pregnant back in september (after about 6 months of TTC) and we shared our exciting news with our parents and family around week 8 and 9.  it was difficult to keep it quiet that long, especially with the super fun pregnancy symptoms i was experiencing, but we wanted to tell our parents and siblings in person and that was the soonest we were able to.  so now that i'm 12 weeks along, we have heard the heartbeat and have told the close friends and family, the news is now public.  which means facebook official.  thank goodness, because i am so bad at keeping that kind of a secret to myself AND my belly is starting to pooch out a little, so now i can tell people it's because i'm pregnant and not because i'm eating too many cupcakes.

i knew pretty early on that i was pregnant.  around week 5 i started experiencing 24 hour a day nausea.  no vomiting, thank goodness, because i am such a wimp at dealing with that, but the round the clock nausea was enough for me.  i also had some mild back pain.  around week 10 the nausea clouds started to lift and i could eat food without wanting to hurl.  my sense of smell is still super sensitive, to the point of retching violently over the smell of someone's funky breath, onions, or last night's leftovers.  i've had some food cravings and aversions: craving mostly fruit, sometimes ice cream but not a lot of sweets which is very out of the ordinary for me, normally i crave sweets all the time, i prefer to eat things that are cold like yogurt, fruit, etc.  aversions: fried stuff, not really an aversion but it's hard for me to eat salad and some veggies (which is strange because very early on in my pregnancy i couldn't get enough salad), ground beef and another strange thing is that i really don't prefer to eat much red meat.  which is very unusual for me, i've been known to scarf down a 16 oz steak in one sitting.  but lately i really only want to eat chicken if we're eating meat.  i don't really have any other crazy symptoms now, just mild backaches sometimes and trouble sleeping other times.  and the ladies.  the ladies are super crazy sore.  so i'd like to keep a weekly update on this pregnancy, mostly for my own enjoyment so that i can have some sort of record of my first pregnancy.  since 12 weeks is the first week that we took photos and have announced le bebe, we'll start there on a separate post.  :)
