things about this month that i don't want to forget

since i'm not doing monthly updates on z anymore, i feel like i will forget so many things that happen, and i REALLY don't want to.  i mean, i will forget, but it's nice to have these memories written down somewhere so that in the future, i can read through these times and be reminded of z's toddlerhood, and think "thanks, past self, for recording these precious memories".  so that's what this is all about.  for my future self:

i love z's hair.  it's soft, shiny, has a tiny bend at the ends, and is a beautiful medium brown color with natural copper and golden highlights.

z is starting to give really nice hugs now.  he wraps his arms around my neck and pats my back.  sometimes he snuggles his face into my neck.

he is starting to say "mama" and "baba" now and it's the sweetest sound.

he babbles in baby talk all the time now.  it's completely adorable.

z started taking his first steps right before his first birthday, and then would be more brave everyday after that, taking more and more steps until all of a sudden he was walking everywhere.

z walks all over the place now.  he is really getting good at it.  one of his favorite things is to walk the circle of the living room, hallway, kitchen, living room.

this boy looooooves books!  he now will grab a book, usually one of his favorites like Dear Zoo or The Very Hungry Caterpiller, hand the book over, sit in a lap and enjoy.  this makes me so happy, especially since i love to read, too.

when he plays with a car, truck, train, etc, he makes this bllllttttthhhhhhrrrrrr car noise with his mouth.

he is starting to remember and recognize people.  like, his grandparents in CA, he knows that baba bozorg will chase him on hands and knees yelling, "get him?  begiresh!" and z loves it, squealing and speed crawling away.  he gives his mama bozorg big, sloppy kisses when we facetime with her.  it's the best.

some first words besides mama and baba:  gook (book), gilk (milk), ca (car), crck (cracker), baa (ball)

z notices subtle changes in mama, like if i'm not wearing my glasses, or if i have a clip or headband in my hair, etc, he looks really closely, moves around me and checks out what's new.  it's adorable.

he is getting to the age now where he is starting to repeat things that we do or say.  for example, you know that bone on the outside of your ankle?  the one that sticks out?  i smashed that so hard on this metal chair in the kitchen and rather than scream what first popped into my head (i'll give you 3 guesses.  starts with an f), i said grrrrrr! while bending over and grabbing my ankle.  after i stopped seeing stars, i got up off the floor and started washing dishes and a few minutes later i see z over by the table where i was, bending over and saying grrrrrr!  hahahahaha!  i'm so glad i said grrrr instead of the other thing!

lately i have been able to get him to sleep the night in his crib.  he wakes up around 11:30pm, i can usually rock him back to sleep (sometimes i still have to nurse him), and then he may wake up between 1:30-3:30 and i go in and nurse him back to sleep.  it's been so nice to have room to sleep in our bed!  so, the next step will be night weaning.
