laundry room refresh

the first picture is the after picture, and the second is the before
alright! i did a project! wwwooohhhooooo! haha. i decided to work on the laundry room since A) it would be a fairly quick project 2) it is so yellowy beigy outdated C) i spend so much time doing laundry and 4) hubs built me a folding counter and it made me want to update the rest of the room. so i started with paint. i waivered for a bit on what to do; initially i thought it would be fun to paint a striped wall but recently i decided against it. i wanted the room to be bright and soothing and calming. the walls were painted a yellow undertoned beige that is just not my style. so i decided white would be good for that small space and a nice light and airy blue for the ceiling. i've always wanted to paint the ceiling of a room something other than white.  and i loooove the blue that we painted the powder room, and we had some left over, so i chose that color.  painting the walls made a huge difference already but in my mind it made the yellow outdated linoleum floor even uglier haha.  earlier i had thought maybe i would paint the floor.  but then i thought that might take too much time and effort.  then i thought maybe we should just lay down some hardwood like in the rest of the downstairs, but decided against it because i didn't want to spend THAT much on the laundry room floor.  then i settled on peel and stick vinyl tiles.  they have come a long way in the past few years, and after pinterest-ing and google searching the heck out of it, i decided to go for it.  they hold up pretty well and have some non-hideous options that are affordable.  so after checking home depot, lowe's and amazon i picked some up from home depot.  they didn't have enough of my first choice, so i had to choose a different one.  none of them were super exciting, and the one i liked the best (a faded grayish worn looking wood, which i loved) wouldn't really go well with the hardwood floors we already have.  so i chose this slate looking gray in 12x24.  hubs and i were able to get it done over the weekend.  it didn't take that much time, but we had to stop to take care of our kids and stuff, you know how it goes.  then i touched up the trim.  oh!  and i highly recommend applying a thin strip of caulk on the top of your baseboards.  it makes the trim look so seamless and nice.  anyway, the new floor makes such a big difference in the aesthetic of the room.  we also painted the shelves and hanging rod white and i painted the cabinet a light gray, the same color we painted ava's room---moonshine by benjamin moore.  i tore out the ugly brown blinds and replaced them with some breezy white curtains.  i would have liked to get a nice roman shade or cellular blinds but they were more than i wanted to spend right now on the laundry room.  i may upgrade at some point, especially since it is kind of annoying to have curtains hanging down behind the sink and washer and dryer, but it will work for now.  i did some organizing and then i replaced the old boob light with a nice seeded glass pendant that i installed all by myself!  haha!  without burning the house down or electrocuting myself.  and that's about it!  i might add a few extra things here and there for fun, like some pictures on the wall but i will do that at my leisure.
on the left of the picture you can see the trim without caulking and on the right side of the picture the caulk is there

floors
washer and dryer.  i painted the cabinet above the w/d
the corner where the utility sink is, i will get a replacement for it at some point since it's pretty gross, but we use it a lot

from the other side of the room, facing the door

got this fun little peg board at target in the dollar bin section, although i think it was $5 or $3, but it holds change, hair ties, whatever random stuff from the pockets of clothes
the cabinet that holds the soap and all that a stuff

i added these bins, organized it a little bit

this has to be one of my favorite things; a little hook that attaches to this shelving system, to hold our cloth bags for grocery shopping

the shelving system that holds all our stuffs

another shot looking from the door, notice the curtains

the seeded glass pendant

the hanging and folding station, you can see the fun shadows on the wall and ceiling from the pendant

here is a shot of the ceiling, you can't really see the color that well in this picture, but you can tell the difference between the ceiling and the white walls
so that's that.  i am so excited about this, haha.  it really is like a breath of fresh air to me every time i get through one of the rooms and make it my style, out with the yellow and beige, in with the breezy, calm and blue.
