20 weeks baby 2.0---and gender update!

halfway through this pregnancy! so this past week flew by again in a whirl of sun, heat, sprinklers, muddy toddler feet, and afternoon siestas.  it has been unusually warm and sunny, with temperatures in the mid eighties to low nineties, and generally this kind of weather doesn't happen until august, and only for a week or two at best.  since we don't have AC, i have figured out a routine--me and z play outside until it gets too warm for me to handle, closing the blinds and curtains in the late morning to keep the house cooler, eating lunch in front of the fan, taking a short nap while z naps, playing with water in the afternoon in the shade, cooking and eating dinner and then by that time it has cooled down enough to be pleasant.  it seems to be working.  i had to figure something out because for the first two days that it was really warm, i think i over-exerted myself and also didn't hydrate properly so i ended up really lightheaded and weak.  so, i had to check myself and remember that i am pregnant and i need to slow down and make sure to eat enough and drink enough water throughout the day while chasing after z, and to pace myself.  i am just so sensitive to this heat right now.  anyway, the week has been all about playing and trying to stay cool.  but i love this summer weather.  our gardens are growing with flowers, herbs, fruits and veggies, we get to play outside with the hose and sprinklers and wading pools, it's awesome.  when i was pregnant with z, it didn't really get this warm until july, closer to his due date, and by that time i was done with school for the summer, and i was huge and uncomfortable anyway so i already was moving slowly and pacing myself.  i mainly just stayed inside, or went to the grocery store for the 2 weeks that it was really warm until z was born.  but this is different, i have to keep up with a super active toddler who just wants to play outside, and i can only guess that the whole summer will be quite warm.  thank goodness for spray parks and kiddie pools haha.  and the mall.  so needless to say by the end of the day i am pretty tired, my belly is big and causing lots of pressure, and my hands swell just a little bit.  anyway, for some reason i was thinking that the anatomy scan for this baby was friday, but it was actually today, i'm so glad that they call me to remind me of appointments the day before.  so we went today, the tech said everything looks normal, and we'll get the report from the radiologist and midwife in a couple days.  i was anxiously waiting to find out the sex of the baby.  with z it was very clear, once the tech moved the probe (probe---shudder) around so we could see under z's legs, i could see at once that he was a boy, even before the tech said anything!  with this baby, the tech checked out the area, we couldn't really see anything, he came back around later and we still couldn't see anything.  it took a couple of times.  and we never got a super clear shot because this baby was being very modest, crossing legs and folding legs underneath and all that.  we only got one quick glimpse and the tech was able to freeze the screen so we could check it out.  to me, it was clear, those were girl parts.  it looked very different than z's scan.  since we couldn't get a really good look, though, the tech said that with 75% confidence the baby is a girl.  so, we likely are having a girl, hahahahaha! i'm very sure that she is a girl, though.  so yay!  z used to say brother-sister but from about 16 weeks on he kept calling it baby sister, so he was right!  anyway i am so excited, i was really hoping for a girl this time, although boy or girl, we would have been very happy.  but it'll be great to have one of each.  wooohooooo! oh, and during the scan, this little sweet pea was moving around a little bit, putting her hands up to her face, opening her mouth wide, moving her legs gently, very different than z.  every time we saw him he was bouncing all around my uterus.  oh, and the picture that the tech gave us is of this little one with her legs up over her head like some sort of yoga pose, it is hilarious!  i've never seen an ultra sound picture like this, hahaha. alright, here's the weekly stuff:

How far along: 20 weeks
Size of baby: a mango or banana, about 10.5 ounces and 6.5 inches long, or about 10 inches from head to heel, sweetpea is practicing swallowing and other digestive skills, and tooth buds are forming
Total weight gain: i'm not sure, probably about 6 lbs or so
Maternity clothes: kind of, i don't really have any maternity clothes for this warm weather so i have been wearing lots of dresses that still fit me, low fitting shorts that still fit me, and i broke down and bought two pairs of maternity shorts
Gender: probably a girl
Movement: more and more!
Sleep: it's been ok
What I miss: not being super sensitive to everything! like coffee, orange juice, any dairy, heat,
Cravings: things that are cold and a little bit sweet, like popsicles and cold fruit
Symptoms: like i stated above--being really sensitive to dairy, acidic foods, the heat, all which have caused headaches and nausea, lots of pressure down there, fatigue and feeling slow
Best moment this week: seeing this baby girl on ultra sound!

starting to lose sight of my feet

here's this baby showing off her bendy yoga skills with her feet up by her head
