a tiny bit of front room progress

so we have been working on getting the front room together, which includes converting it into an office/lounge area/playroom, getting the nursery together and making z's room a big boy room.  we were first trying to take the 3 bookcases that we bought from ikea and pimp them out a little bit so that they look nicer than ikea bookcases.  then move everything from the office into the bookcases, purging and organizing along the way.  we finished putting the bookcases together and now it looks like one fancier piece rather than three shoved next to each other.  i am in the process of getting all the stuff from our office organized and put away, but for the time being our front room looks like the aftermath of an earthquake.  stuff is everywhere!  but, it will get finished soon.  hubs finished scraping the popcorn off the ceiling in the nursery, put a little texture back on to cover any imperfections, primed and painted and i put up the first coat of paint.  i could not find a paint color that i liked that was a light aqua or something like that, so i settled on gray.  i chose moonshine by benjamin moore colormatched to valspar.  it was a color i have had my eye on for awhile now for the rest of the house, so i decided to go for it.  interestingly, in the nursery room it looks more beigey grey, greige if you will, than i expected.  in natural daylight it looks more like a true gray, and it's a beautiful color, so i hope that once we get some decent lighting in there and all the furniture and stuff that it looks how i want it to look.  i just need to put the second coat on, paint the closet, and then we can start moving stuff in!  then hubs will get to work with scraping the popcorn off of z's ceiling and all that.  then we'll paint and finish z's room.  then we'll be done!  for a little while at least, i think hubs is going to try to scrape the ceiling in the family room, too, before we get all our lighting installed.  stupid popcorn ceilings.  anyway, the ceiling in the nursery looks so much better without that popcorn.  i'm so excited to get the front living room done.  well, it won't be done done, it's still a work in progress as i layer in some framed art and pictures, a rug, set up the play area, replace the futon with a proper couch and all of that fun stuff.  but the room already looks better with actual furniture in it! haha.  anyway, so we are chugging along slowly but surely.  i kind of overdid it a little bit by painting the nursery myself while z was napping, so i will have to just do a little bit of that kind of stuff at a time.  which drives me nuts!  i want to get it all done now!  anyway, here are the fruits of our labor this past week:
added some trim to the sides

got some poplar planks, stained them and nailed them to the top, also added some moulding underneath

when i stain wood, i like a dark ebony or espresso, but since the wall color in this room is so dark, we chose a walnut colored stain and i really like how it goes with the walls

here she is

i think i might fill in all the holes on the sides, the holes that are used for the shelves, with caulk or something, it'll help make the whole thing look nicer

it's hard to tell in pictures, but the popcorn on the ceiling in the nursery is gone!

painting!

these are some of the different paint colors that i sampled, none of which look the same on the wall as on the card or in the can.  and none of which i liked.
anyway, lots to do!!!! i wish i had a clone (a non-pregnant clone) to get it all done!
