house update
i have been trying to work on the house as much as
possible when i have breaks in the day, like when he actually does nap,
or when he will be content enough to just chill on a blanket on the
floor or in his mamaroo. so, i have pretty much finished the closet. i
added a shoe organizer and some shelf dividers, hung up my earrings and
necklace holders and put all the clothes back on the hangers. the only
thing left to do is put together this light and hang it up. i chose
this fun chandy:
|
unfortunately,
it came completely disassembled so i have to put it together myself.
arggggg. there are about a million of those little white shells that i
have to string. blerg. oh well. here is the closet so far:
almost done |
shelf dividers |
i'll
post pictures of the closet once i put the chandy together and install
it. i have been able to unpack everything and get stuff put away so my
next action plan is to organize everything and then paint and hang up
some frames and decorate up the place a little bit. we'll get there.
here are some of the things that we have taken care of:
so then hubs and i finished turning the harry potter closet into our pantry:
if you remember, this is what it looked like before:
and here is after again:
i spotted this beautiful dahlia at lowe's and had to take it home, so we planted it to replace a kind of ugly bush that was there before:
we plan on planting some rose bushes in the empty space next to the dahlia as well. then, i stumbled upon HomeGoods, which is awwwwweesssoooooooooooommmmmmeeeee! we needed to buy some lamps because for some reason many of the rooms in this house don't have ceiling lights. and i was appalled at how expensive lamps are in a regular store. so, we journeyed to HomeGoods and found these gems for very a very reasonable price:
let's see, i also settled on a paint color for the downstairs bathroom:
and i finally got z's nursery unpacked and somewhat put together:
that's it for now, i'll post again with more progress as i chug along, slowly but surely. my next steps are to hopefully hang some artwork/pictures in some of the rooms, clean up the laundry room as it's super messy right now, put together some of the furniture we picked up and make the living room look more home-y, finish the master closet by installing the chandy, and add some hanging containers on the right side of the pantry to hold teabags and other misc things. of course there are a million other things i want/need to do but that is my short list for now. oh, we also purchased a new vanity for the downstairs bath, a faucet, paint and picked the tile we'd like to re-do the floor with. this is the vision i have for that bathroom:
this is the old brass door knocker that i wanted to update to match the oil rubbed bronze door knob |
and afterwards, it's kind of hard to see with the light reflecting off of it, but i spray painted it oil rubbed bronze and now it matches the door handle, see below: |
so then hubs and i finished turning the harry potter closet into our pantry:
we added some floor shelves rather than wall shelves since the walls are an odd shape, i lined them with rubber shelf liner and bought some baskets and glass jars to organize stuff |

for the guest room |
i really like the detail on this lamp |
for the master bedroom |
for the living room |
i really like this one, too |
z's giant bear sitting in the chair...i don't know how many times this guy scared the crap out of me, thinking it was a man out of the corner of my eye |
so much better than the super bright yellow that is in there now |

it's kind of a silver/gray tile. we figured we'd purchase it later, closer to when we will actually start working on the bathroom. anyway, that's it for now, until next time when i can get more stuff done! :)
I am having fun watching you design your new home...baby and all!!!
