the holidays

putting the boy down for a nap, or maybe the other way around

feeding himself like a big boy!

so this is technically the second Christmas holiday season that we have had with z, but the first one where he actually has any idea of what is going on.  as Bahai's, our family doesn't celebrate Christmas ourselves, but we do celebrate with my family and our friends.  actually, there is a really great post over at motherhood and more that talks about whether Bahai's celebrate Christmas.  give it a read, it's pretty good.  anyway, we put together some very simple gifts (usually photos, haha) and on Christmas Eve we had my folks, my brother and sister-in-law and their family, and some very close friends of the family.  it was wonderful, and chaotic at the same time.  hubs and i cooked dinner for everyone, we had dessert, exchanged some gifts.  z opened a couple gifts from grama and grampa and his aunt, uncle and cousins.  it was fun.  hubs had some time off work so we were able to visit with family and friends, work on some projects at home and just hang out as a family.  it was great. hubs and I got to watch a little tv, we watched a ridiculous British series called the inbetweeners, the first season of silicon valley, some food network shows, i watched the cosmos series and loved it! i had some time to do a little baking, we had 3 trees chopped down which really opens up the backyard, and hubs has been splitting wood like a natural born lumber jack ever since.  anyone need firewood?  over the holiday our child leaped into the next developmental phase of exploring and understanding systems, testing boundaries, challenging his parents and going through a language explosion.  i got to spend a little more time with my nieces and nephew and watch all of the little ones get into mischief together, totally reminds me of my brother and 2 younger cousins, they were always causing trouble together.  we face timed with my in laws in CA a bunch so that they could see Z.  it's cute, whenever we go to initiate a FaceTime call, Z says "gama? gama?" for gramma. and a couple of my friends told us they are expecting!!! wooohooo. it was a great holiday and we ended it spending time with really wonderful friends. how about y'all? anything fun?
