some new lights

so, little by little, we are getting some stuff done in this house to update it and bring it out of the 1980's.  nothing too major yet because we just can't seem to squeeze a bathroom remodel in with our little cutie demanding all of our time...jeez, what a baby.  haha just kidding.  but over the last week hubby replaced most of our old, ugly and outdated can lights to nice recessed lighting.  the lights that we had previously looked to me like a butt cheek hanging out of daisy dukes....

just really out of date.  hubby researched different kinds of lights to replace them with, and originally brought home some energy efficient bulbs but when we he installed them we decided they were way too cool (as in color tone) and bright for us plus it didn't fix the whole look of the lighting.  so, hubs went back to lowe's (i feel like we live there) and talked to the lighting guy who pointed him to some LED can recessed lights.  they were $30 a pop so we decided to pass at that time.  but then a few days later they went on sale to $20 a piece, score!  so hubs bought a couple to try out.  at the same time, he caulked inside where the light fixture is because our house is super drafty and gets really cold so we are trying to do everything we can do to seal up all those places that air can get through and a recent energy audit demonstrated that lots of air leaks through those light fixtures.  anyway, hubby installed the new lights and they look a million times better to me.  woohoooo!
more sleek and modern.  so, that was a fairly easy way to update our lighting situation for now.  for some reason these spot lights are also in all of the bedrooms as well as in the master bath, which is terrible!  they just do not cast flattering light and just seem strange to me to have as the only light source in a bedroom (besides lamps of course).  so we didn't replace those ones yet, because i plan on replacing them with a nice drum shade or something:

that's it for now.  oh---things we learned from this little project:
-you can seal up the cracks where the can lighting fixtures are installed to insulate your house a little more from cold drafts
-the lighting guy at lowe's is pretty helpful
-a simple way to update your home is by changing out the light fixtures
