bathroom update day 9, but really day 26
ok, so i was able to finish laying the tile this past friday and saturday night after baby went to bed and hubby cut the tiles to fit around the toilet hole and other corners and stuff. we are a good team. i put baby to bed and he cuts tile. anyway then on sunday night after baby went to sleep i went ahead and grouted. we used a grout mix that is mold and mildew resistant and doesn't need to be sealed. it is a littler stickier than regular grout but i guess it holds up better in the long run. and it wasn't very difficult to apply. actually, that has been the easiest part of the tiling process so far. turns out, laying tile isn't super fun because everything has to be even and level, and even when you make sure it is level, somehow a little tile gnome comes in the middle of the night and steps on your tile to make it unlevel by morning. but grouting was easy. plop it on the gaps, squish it in with the grout float, scrape the excess off, go over it all with a clean vinegar-water sponge. i scrubbed the tile all again this morning with some more vinegar water to clean off all the excess grout residue, as this type of grout leaves not a haze like regular grout, but a sticky residue. now it just needs to cure for 12 hours before we walk on it. up next is touching up and painting the trim/baseboards, spray painting the door knob a nice ORB finish, installing the trim and baseboards, and all the big stuff like vanity and toilet, hang art and i plan on making some simple shelves. whew. maybe about halfway there? here is what the floor looks like now:
