ch-ch-ch-changes in the living room
so i have been keeping my eye out for some comfy chairs for our living room for the past few months. we had been using those ikea poang chairs, one is a regular poang and the other was a rocking chair, and i we decided that it was time to get some non-ikea furniture for our house. but we're not the type to just go out and buy a whole living room set at one time, because it is a little too matchy-matchy for me and also because we would rather see what we like and then save up for it. anyway, i had my eye on a couple different chairs from target and world market. i would love to be able to go all out (for me) and purchase some beauties from west elm or z gallerie but i won't spend $600 on a chair just yet. baby steps. maybe when i'm 50. 2 weeks ago i received a promotional email from world market that they were having a 50% off furniture sale. woohoooo! i perused the selection online and found one of the chairs that i had my eye on, the atlantic blue ravenna chair. it was normally $279 marked down to $139. score! so baby z and i hopped in the car to go check it out. we stopped at target first to check out some of their chairs, and they were not bad. then walked over to world market and right when i walked in the door was the chair that i saw online. i sat in it and it was comfy! and then i sat in all the other chairs just to make sure that i wanted the ravenna chair. so i took a picture of it and sent it to hubby to see what he thought, and he responded that we should get 2. yay hubby! then i proceeded to order it, balked at the $80 per chair delivery fee and decided to order it in-store, had to get a rain check, 2 weeks later squeezed both of the chairs into my car, brought them home and assembled them while baby z was rolling around on the floor. now the only thing i need to do is figure out where to put them in the living room. it is a rectangular room that is kind of long and a little narrow (but not too narrow) and every wall has something on it; on one wall is the fireplace, another wall is the sliding glass door, a third is the door to the kitchen and the fourth wall has the door to the hallway, so it is a little difficult to arrange the furniture around. the other day i pushed the furniture all over the room trying to find the best way to arrange everything. so after about 6 arrangements, i was tired, and decided to stop. the current arrangement is just fine, but because i have pushed the couch over to one end of a wall closer to the fireplace to accommodate one of the chairs, the couch is off center of the wall and looks odd to me. hopefully i can put a couple of virtual floor plans together and you guys can help me figure it out. anyway, enough of the talk, here is what everything looks like right now:
there is still a lot of stuff i need to do to this room, art and mirrors and pictures and whatnot to adorn the walls, roman shades for the small windows flanking the fireplace, new pillows and other stuff that i have in my head but isn't fully formed yet. so this is how the chairs are placed for now, mostly because i like the room to be open and if i were to place the chairs at the end of the coffee table with their backs facing towards you as if you are standing in the picture above, then it would close off the back of the room and i don't want that. i want a nice open area for people to see each other and baby to play on the floor. oh, and the room looks lived in because it is the most lived in room in the house. so.....what do you guys think? any ideas for how i could arrange the furniture to keep it open and utilize all the space (without mounting the tv above the fireplace, i don't want to do that)?
check out that chair, awww yea |
ok that's probably enough of the chair. here is the corner with the book case and stuff |
